India Wind – Gujarat leads in capacity addition in 2013-14, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh follow

According to the updates released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the total wind capacity in India stood at 20,226 MW. A total of 1,175 MW of wind capacity was added during the first 10 months of the FY 2013-14 till January 2014. Gujarat added 362 MW, followed by Maharashtra with 297 MW and Andhra Pradesh with 200 MW. The leader, Tamil Nadu, added only 89 MW due to several challenges which we had highlighted in our earlier post(read here). As a result, Tamil Nadu’s market share has continued to slip to 35.8% of the total. It is worth noting that at the FY 2006-07, Tamil Nadu had almost 50% of the total wind installed capacity in the country. The state-wise details are given below.
