Overview
The anticipated power requirement in Maharashtra for the year 2012-13 was 52,700 Million Units(MUs) or Million kWh, whereas the availability was anticipated at 44,758 MUs, which translates to an annual deficit of about 15.1%( Source: Central Electricity Authority-CEA). The Government of Maharashtra unbundled and restructured the erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) with effect from 6th June, 2005. The Generation, Transmission and Distribution businesses of the erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board were transferred to four successor companies, namely MSEB Holding Company Limited, Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd (MSPGCL), Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd (MSETCL) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL).
