Madhavan Nampoothiri contributed the following article to the Power Watch India’s 1st anniversary issue of their magazine. The article titled “India’s Renewable” was published in the “Green Ahead” section of the April issue. Mr. Madhavan has provided a very detailed review of the progress of the renewable energy industry in 2010. In addition, he throws light on the prospect of the industry for the present year.
It is estimated that India needs to have over 300 GW of energy installation by 2017. Also, the country’s demand for oil in 2015 is expected to be 41% higher than in 2007 and almost 150% higher in 2030. h e government is aware of the challenges and that success will depend on structural changes in industry and on new technologies.
