India’s renewable energy capacity increases drastically in Q4 of 2013-14 : MNRE

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE) has released the renewable energy installation capacity as of 31.03.2014, the end of the financial year(FY) 2013-14. Some of the highlights are
a. 3.639 GW of grid-connected renewable energy capacity was added in the FY 2013-14. The cumulative RE capacity stood at 31,707 MW at the end of 2013-14.

b. Wind contributed to 57%(2083 MW) of the total renewable capacity installations during the year, whereas solar’s contribution was 26%(962.1 MW).
c. The most interesting, and perhaps surprising, part is that almost 50% of the capacity additions for the entire year came in the final quarter of the financial year. In fact, more than one-third of the wind capacity addition and more than 40% of solar capacity addition came in the last month of the year(March).

While the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association(IWTMA) had released similar numbers for wind installed capacity addition during the year(click here), there is no similar independent verification of the solar installation numbers.
