India’s Operational PV Manufacturing capacity – 297 MW for cells, 1304 MW for Modules – MNRE

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE) today released the list of 52 PV manufacturers in the country. While the installed cell manufacturing capacity is 1386 MW, the operational capacity is only 297 MW. Similarly, the nameplate PV module manufacturing capacity is 2756 MW, but the operational capacity is less than half of this capacity(1304 MW).
(To put the numbers in perspective, the largest PV module manufacturer, Yingli Green Energy ALONE shipped more than 3000 MW of modules in 2013. )
The top 5 major cell manufacturers account for almost 90% of the operational manufacturing capacity, and these 5 companies are Indosolar(80 MW), Tata Power Solar(70 MW) , Jupiter Solar(70 MW), Euro Multivision(40 MW) and Premier Solar(20 MW).
When it comes to PV module manufacturing, 3 companies have operational capacities of 100 MW or more(Tata Power Solar-200 MW, EMMVEE PV Power – 135 MW and Websol Energy System – 100 MW).
The list of PV manufacturers is available here.
