JNNSM Phase 2 Batch 2 bidding for 1500 MW likely in July/August 2014 – MNRE

The Economic Times has reported that the JNNSM Phase 2 Batch 2 allocation of 1500 MW will revert to the mechanism of “bundling of power” which was successful in the Phase 1 of the JNNSM. The report also states that the bidding process is likely to be handled by the NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigarm(NVVN).
While the news is no doubt good, the projects alloted under the Phase 2, Batch 1 of the JNNSM are facing major uncertainties pertaining to the sourcing of modules under the Domestic Content Requirement(DCR), and the final decision on Anti-dumping duties. It goes without saying that the government will have to settle the issue of Anti-Dumping Duties before initiating the bidding process for the 1500 MW.
